I believe that my experience in both the not for profit and health care delivery sectors make me an excellent candidate as a board member. I began my professional career working in the not for profit sector with The Trans Canada Trail Foundation, where my responsibilities included being the board liaison with the operation, along with being the liaison to provincial trail building boards. More recently I have worked with one of the hospital key external stakeholders and community partners Ornge Transport Medicine. My work with Ornge both as a paramedic and a the Base Manager have provided me with the opportunity to see the importance and impact the Hospital Foundation has both on the hospital and our community.

From a personal standpoint the Lake of the Woods Hospital has not only played a major part in my immediate family, as both my children were born there, but also multiple generations of  my extended family have been born and cared under its roof. I feel very strongly about being able to give back to the Hospital through volunteering my time to its Foundation, because it has and will continue to be a central part in caring for my family, and the community we live in.

As a resident, parent and business owner I have an interest in having a healthy medical community.  

I strongly believe that the community is what we make of it together.  As such, I have been involved with many volunteer organizations in Kenora, including being a founding member of LOWAC, President of Kenora Swimming Sharks, Harbourtown Biz arts liaison and responsible for promotions for several organizations. 

Along with being a professional artist and owning a gallery in Kenora, I have a science and marketing background.  I was a Senior Researcher with a global marketing firm before moving to Kenora and to the arts as a profession.  I continue to operate as an independent consultant for clients across North America.  I'm hoping to bring a different perspective to the Board and offer assistance based on my past experiences.

I have lived in Kenora all of my life and have always considered myself fortunate to have been able to live and have a career in such a beautiful part of the world.

My wife Michelle and I were married in 1989 and we have two daughters.  After graduating from Beaver Brae  high school in 1982 I worked in the service industry for 10 years and enjoyed every minute of it.

In 1990 I completed the necessary courses to obtain my Real Estate license. I continued with upgrading my license and in 1993 became a Real Estate Broker.  In 2000 Michelle and I purchased Century 21 Reynard Real estate and continue to operate that business today.

I have been  a director on the Lake of the Woods District Hospital foundation since 2007 and look forward to continuing this work into the future.

 

Brock Chisholm
Manager, Rehabilitation Department, LWDH

B. Chisholm

Brock Chisholm has been the Manager of Rehabilitation at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora since 1993, a position that includes program and financial planning and evaluation, human and physical resources management, Quality Assurance activities, clinical coordination of all student activities, clinical preceptorship, and clinical assessment, treatment and consultation.

After graduating in 1989 from the University of Toronto, he initially worked as a staff Physiotherapist at St. Joseph’s Care Group in Thunder Bay, where he specialized in rheumatology and geriatrics.

In addition to his current management and clinical role at the LWDH, Brock is also the Physiotherapy Co-ordinator with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Rehabilitation Studies Program, where he both coordinates student placement activities and Continuing Professional Development for Physiotherapists in Northwestern Ontario.

 

Marc Bissonnette
Owner, Bell's Septic & Environmental Services

I was born and raised in Keewatin and graduated from BBSS in 1989.   I left Kenora to go to school in Ottawa but moved to Calgary and graduated from Mount Royal College with a marketing diploma in 1992.   After graduation I was given a contract position with Molson Breweries that turned into a full time position in Thunder Bay. I worked as a sales rep with Molson's from 1993 till 1999.  As a result of cut backs I was forced to change directions so I decided to take 6 months off to prepare myself for the next challenge that life would present to me.  In October of 2000 I purchased Hap's on the Harbourfront and was owner/operator till November of 2012 when I realized family and quality of life are more important. In January of 2013 I took a job as a account manager for Acklands-Grainger.

Since moving back to Kenora I was lucky to find my wonderful wife Lana and we have two wonderful kids, Luc and Leah, four and two respectively.  I tried to give back through my business by giving to the hospital foundation and through multiple charities with our charity beef on a bun. 

I have been involved in many different business organization including Kenora BIZ, Economic Business Development Commission and Business Attraction Committee. I look forward to raising my children in Kenora and give them all the opportunities that Kenora and the Lake of the Woods have to offer. One of the biggest lesson I hope to give my kids is giving back to your community.  I look forward to helping the foundation accomplish all of its goals and believe I will be a valuable member.

 

Dominique Kyle

D. Kyle

I am a born and raised Calgarian that gave up the beautiful Rockies for the equally outstanding destination of Lake of the Woods! After four years of life in North Western Ontario and I am never looking back; other than the annual ski trips out west!  

In my journey to this point in my life, I am so grateful my parents encouraged travel to be an integral part of my education.  I had the privilege to be a part of program called Class Afloat where we sailed from North America, to Europe to Africa to South America on a Barquentine Tall Ship. This epic journey, along with annually accompanying my father on business trips to South America gave me the gift of seeing, respecting and appreciating a world beyond mine.  It was no surprise that I was driven to study International Business Management at University.  This degree required me to study in Mexico City at Universidad Panamericana, and by the time I left I was fluent (I now wish I still was!).  Upon completion of my degree I then had 5 fantastic years with Canadian Pacific Railway.   I left Calgary in 2005 and moved to Cork, Ireland to support my husband in achieving his dream;  a degree in Medicine.  After 5 incredible years in Europe, we now reside full time in Kenora with two children, and have thankfully found the careers and life we were striving for.

 

Carter Friesen

Carter grew up in Steinbach, Manitoba, but spent the first 10 summers of his life on a small sailboat at Northern Harbour. Now, his family calls Channel Island their home away from home. Carter recently moved to Keewatin from London, Ontario, where he spent his last four years learning at Western University’s Ivey Business School. He grew up in the broadcasting world, and spent the last three summers working at Golden West Broadcasting, where experience was gained in advertising sales, corporate strategy, and corporate finance. Knowledgeable about the Canadian radio industry, and the challenges it faces, Carter recently authored a piece about radio in the Ivey Business Review. Carter is now the manager of Q104 in Northwestern Ontario, continuing his passion for business and broadcasting.

 

Jackie Hailstone
General Manager - CIBC Kenora Banking Centre

J. Hailstone

Jackie Hailstone is the General Manager at the CIBC Kenora branch. She was born and raised in Emo, ON and graduated from Bemidji State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business. She has been with CIBC for 17 years working in Fort Frances, Sioux Lookout, Dryden and Kenora. Jackie loves Northwestern Ontario and has been enjoying Kenora for the last 11 years.

As the manager of the CIBC in Kenora she has been able to participate and support community events such as Run for the Cure, United Way Campaign, and Boobie Nights. Jackie and her husband Sean have two small children and believes in the value of a strong health care facilities for all families in the area.
